For some unknown reason, the office is as cold as the Artic, which makes me crave for my favourite bak kut teh dish right now. If only there is a bak kut teh restaurant in Cyberjaya. This reminds me that I have this bak kut teh post sitting in the draft quite sometime, and its time for me to post it and admire the photos, and wait for dinnertime to come. This Restoran Yi Xiang Bak Kut Teh is located in SS18 Subang Jaya. They have a branch in Puchong, and another in Pulau Pinang.
The Chinese character literally translates into "Yi Xiang string tied meat bak kut teh". The restaurant is not the usual " not so hygienic" bak kut teh place. It is, in fact, clean and air conditioned, with induction cooker to boil hot water, properly printed menu with graphics and price promptly displayed.
And they also have personalized cups and cutlery.
The mandatory minced garlic, birds eye chilli and soy sauce.
We ordered two servings:
One serving of pork belly,
... and another serving of pork trotters. Their broth base is flavourful, leaning more towards the aroma of meat of soy sauce, with mild hint of herbs. Despite the tall appearance, the bowl is quite shallow, and resting on a burner to keep the soup hot. Good move, I'd say, since the air conditioner makes the soup cold very quickly.
Chinese tea to wash away the fat.
Yi Xiang serves their bak kut teh with only the meat and the broth, without the fancy claypots and the usual mushroom, beancurd sheets and vegetables. The mushrooms and beancurd sheets are available as side orders. Meat portions range from RM9.00-RM11.00 per portion. Judging from the workers and the place, I suppose they cooked the bak kut teh somewhere else instead of cooking on-site.
