Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker @ Pasir Pinji -The Food

On the way back from Penang, we dropped by Ipoh to spend a day stuffing ourselves silly with Ipoh food. One of the must eat places we went were this Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker, which houses the famous Big Tree Foot (大树脚) yong tau fu, or stuffed assorted thingies.

Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker or, in Cantonese"Tai Shu Keok" is a yong tau fu lover's paradise. The variety of stuffed things here was unbelievable; aside from the normal red/green chilies, brinjals, longbeans, beancurd skin and wantan, they even have stuffed eggs and arrowroots. Aside from that, this place also has a decent mixture of different stalls selling stirfried noodles and charkuetiau, porridge, spring rolls, prawn crackers and snacks.

Spring rolls stuffed with boiled turnips and other vegetables. Fondly known as popiahs.

Steamed yam cake topped with crispy shallots and dried shrimps.

Prawn crackers. Literally deep fried small prawns in thick flour batter.

I ordered a Hakka luicha, a healthy fare consisting of rice, a myriad of vegetables, peanuts and dried shrimps, eaten together with a concoction of tea and herbs gravy.

Very soft and mushy porridge. Very flavourful too.
